What exactly does Crossing Horizons do?

We're a personal travel planning service and sherpa — not a travel agency. We design and, at the highest tier, personally guide bespoke trips to the world's most awe-inspiring places, from national parks and backcountry wilderness to the food, history, and neighborhoods of the world's great cities. From the first conversation to the moment you're there, every permit, lodge, reservation, and perfectly timed moment is handled so all you have to do is feel it.

How is this different from a travel agent?

A travel agent sells you packages and earns commission routing you toward partners who pay them back. Crossing Horizons does the opposite: we source lodges, guides, and permits directly from the people who run them, charge transparently for our work, and show you where every dollar goes. No agency markup, no opaque packages — just the experience, planned leanly and honestly.

Where do you take people?

Everywhere the wild still feels wild, and everywhere a city still feels alive. Patagonia, the Himalayas, Arctic Norway, the volcanoes of Guatemala, the canyons of the American Southwest — and the food markets of Mexico City, the temples of Kyoto, the galleries of Florence, the neighborhoods of Lisbon. If a landscape or a city is calling you, we'll tell you honestly whether it's the right fit and how to make it happen.

What are the service tiers?

Four tiers, each building on the last. The Compass ($500–$750) is a custom day-by-day itinerary and destination brief — your starting point, whether the trip is an outdoor adventure, a cultural city stay, or a mix. The Trailhead ($1,500–$3,000) adds accommodation booking, permits, reservations, and a full logistics briefing, then you travel self-guided. The Ascent ($3,500–$6,000) manages every detail live while you're on the ground — flights, transfers, gear, curated dining and experiences, and a 24-hour emergency line. The Summit ($7,500–$12,000) means Sage joins you in person, with Rosé on select trips and full FAA-licensed drone coverage. Service fees are estimate ranges; your exact fee is quoted after the consultation based on trip scope. Trip costs (flights, lodging, permits) are separate and booked at cost.

How does your pricing work?

You pay a transparent service fee for the planning work, and trip costs (flights, lodging, permits, dining) are separate and booked at real cost — no hidden margin. We source everything directly, show you the numbers, and you decide what matters and where the budget bends.

What's the rescue initiative I keep seeing?

A portion of every expedition supports humane societies and pet rescue. Rosé, our trail companion, is the spirit behind it — part of doing what we do is raising awareness for the animals still waiting for their own wild place to run.

How far in advance should I plan?

For major expeditions, three to six months gives us time to secure the best permits, lodges, and weather windows. That said, we've pulled off remarkable trips on shorter notice — tell us your window and we'll tell you what's possible.

Do I need to be an experienced hiker or climber?

Not at all. We design for every level and every style — from gentle, lodge-based journeys and city walking tours to multi-day wilderness traverses. The conversation starts with where you are right now and how you like to travel, and the trip is built to meet you there.

On select Summit-tier trips, Rosé joins — and we love when the spirit of the trail includes a four-legged companion. We'll talk through terrain, lodging, and logistics honestly to see what's possible for your dog.

What if something goes wrong on the trip?

From The Trailhead up, every trip includes an emergency contact protocol. The Ascent and Summit tiers add a 24-hour emergency line and a day-of point of contact — a real person who already knows your trip cold, on the other end at 2am if anything shifts.

Start with the Consultation Portal on the home page. Three questions — where you feel called to go, what's pulling you there, and how to reach you. No invoice, no calendar invite. We respond personally within 48 hours with a real answer about what's possible.

Is there a commitment when I submit an inquiry?

None. The inquiry is a conversation starter, not a booking. You can walk away at any point — even after receiving your Compass itinerary. We plan for people who want the fullest experience possible; we never pressure anyone into it.

Can I see examples of your work?

Yes — the Field Dispatches are real stories and photos from real expeditions, and the public wallpapers are frames captured along the way. They'll give you a feel for the landscapes we chase and the way we move through them.
